That was my thought, too. More specifically, though, it's "niya", where both syllables are pronounced separately rather than run together. For extra smugness, it's "niyari". Tilde optional. Personally, I think Zanma-sensei just wanted to draw a cute fox making cat noises.

Good chapter, but can I just say that I can't get over the constant use of full names rather than just given or surnames? Like, do you really think the characters are so bland that the readers will forget who's who? Maybe in another series it might be necessary, sure, but it's wholly unnecessary...
