@Alanine016 I've re-read Hoshi no Samidare, Sengoku Youko, and Vampire Juujikai at least once a year since I first finished them. Mizukami Satoshi's works especially have a great balance of emotional drama, action, and light-heartedness that make them really easy to get into for me.

I've thoroughly enjoyed Mizukami Satoshi's Hoshi no Samidare, Sengoku Youko, and Spirit Circle (in that order). Helck, Ran to Haiiro no Sekai, and Vampire Juujikai are also great.

Drifters is kind of this, with famous people from various time periods (Sengoku, WWII, Old West, ancient Rome, etc.) get dropped into a fantasy world. Nothing quite "modern," as the latest it's gone so far is WWII. Written by the guy who made Hellsing. Saving 80,000 Gold Coins in the Different...
