I know, simply not sure why mention specifically him for the argument.

It does feel like that person is an alt of someone from the staff/related to the staff and he's attacking any question or critique. Seems like the 'behind the scenes' is mostly about 'saving the website', not really about caring about the 'community', but the question is what for really, when...

I wonder mention a specific staff member? They're friends or perhaps an alt of him/someone from staff?

But didn't you say that mangadex is not doing anything wrong, it's just an upload site, just like youtube so it's not piracy and not in violation of any related laws? What are they being afraid of then. (just youtube is being hit with lawsuits over copyright violations and not removing enough...

This as in what? Also I don't get your attitude, why are you answering if you're not caring about the discussion? "Haha lol doesn't matter", I mean sure, not sure why you waste your time on answering. For me one thing I'm just curious, and second just because other websites for upload have...

How is demanding all those things from 2.3 actually protecting the site? Sure I get the "user at fault" model where they have in the terms that you pinky promise you have permissions, but 2.3 and all other stuff in terms&services of similar or other nature? They don't need to demand a right to...

I'm not sure about "we" but I'm curious about the direction that mangadex actually seems to be following, it's really hard to tell what are they trying to achieve. All the terms&policies updates, officially acknowledging that the site is owned&managed by their official company, opening itself...

How would you change copyright laws to benefit creators if the current model isn't good for them? What part of current laws is actually harmful to the creators? Why do the authors choose to publish their work under a publisher instead of self-publishing, which is very easy with the internet...

https://copyright.uslegal.com/enumerated-categories-of-copyrightable-works/translation/ Copyright is a right that exist regardless if you're selling your creation or not, you can even publish it for free, but still not grant permission for all places to upload it. If you're claiming that...

Scanlations are piracy, right to translation is a part of copyright. There's nothing vague about it.

One could argue that in ideal world you'd learn the language to read the original for yourself because why settle for inherently flawed retelling of a story.

Yeah, they do expire and stuff becomes free to use in the public domain, but it's a long ass time, was it like 70 years after the author's death or something? Not really sure how it's regarding the stuff that was created by a legal entities (companies, etc.) but I guess it's also not a short time.

First, laws aren't only for protecting private property, what are you talking about? Plenty of laws that protect public good or persons, animals, environment, whatever. Next thing, culture is created by people that do the work, can we stop pretending that manga somehow magically appears and...

I didn't argue with what you think about it just what Namicomi/MangaDex is supposed to do when copyright holders nicely ask before going the suing route. And right to translation is a part of copyright currently, yes. However a few questions related to this: How would you even determine if...

Can you actually back up that claim? Because at least as far as I know there's no such thing as copyright expiring but I'm open to changing my mind.

There's no difference between popular series and not popular series, really. They have to remove the content or the situation escalates. And they have a policy and contact for legal matters of where to send claims so it's not even like they're trying to evade it.

Blaming or not blaming aside, of course if you're running a site that hosts stuff without permission from the rightful copyright owner you can anticipate an action from them.

It's actually funny that there's not that much English natives translators really, they already know English as natives and it's just one language to learn for them. There's plenty of translators with English as their second language and Japanese as their third for example.

I'm simply active in scanlator discussions which you're clearly aren't, you simply believe that average scanlation is made by people that actually know Japanese and speak English natively, etc. You say Kakao started it, but still the Japanese publishers tagged along it's not like Kakao forced them.

What's your source then? Do you really believe that stuff that's uploaded on md or elsewhere is made by people who know original language? And are natives in English or other language they translate to? If you're in scanlation from the scanlator side at least a bit and see what's going on you...
