just my personal interpretation, but based off of how she has to reaffirm herself multiple times about it, she probably wasn't truly happy with her life. i think she was content and fine with how things were, but she also knew that mayumi would always be more "free" than her in a sense...

It's a bit tricky because of the lack of gendered pronouns in Japanese equivalent to what we have in languages like English, but from my understanding she's saying when she first saw Aoi, she thought she was a 'hot guy' at first, but I assume she probably realized she was just a masc woman after...
