Mangadex is not the source for tags, it's community fed. If you look down you will see the thread "GL tag removed from Onna Chara", that mentions 2 important things: 1. The GL was removed for no reason and it was reinstated 2. the official published tags contain GL/yuri

I mean it is a pretty heavy theme for this Manga. Also some people don’t like to think or be reminded of these things, since many are just here for the sugar. I agree that this story doesn’t need for someone to almost die, just to flip the script and character growth, but Asian authors do love...

Yes and no. A lot things went very wrong in the development of weapons. Tanks especially were a sad sight. The hatred between the 3 branches of the military was even worse than in the USA and resources were getting scarce as you said. It wasn't the only factor, but it was quite a big factor...

European colonization also changed forms many times, to generalize centuries of happenings with multiple empires acting individually is just odd.
