There's similar case with the old adaptation of "Kaze yo, Banri wo Kake yo", a novel by Yoshiki Tanaka based on Sui Dynasty's expedition to Korea. The translator choose to using Chinese & Korean pronouncation of all the names than Japanese pronouncation.

OVA version is pretty accurate to the novel when adapting the Battle of Astarte (ep 1-2) except the fact that the one accompanying Yang in the 2nd Fleet is Lao, not Dusty Attenborough (tho Artland fixed this change in the Overture to a New War movie and Fujisaki didn't...

So far this manga adapt vol 2 LN. Sometimes skip the details from LN, but it's still good. For me, the drawing is not really good compared to previous adaptation, but the artstyle is unique. It's a shame that the translation is really bad.
