I get that a lot of people usually dislike the rival trope (and for good reason), but I honestly really like Taru. I obviously love Adachi more, but Taru is a good egg. It's nice to see a rival character that doesn't suck, but is just a regular nice person with a bit of bad luck and worse timing.
