Well from him actively seemingly seeking his death, the vibe i get is a veteran who has seen many of his comrades die and wants to join them. So him seeing these "kids" just goofing about might be gnawing at him yeah.

really miss the actual spirit form part of this series, kinda what set apart from other series where generic protag goes around helping isekai world. Feels like its been relegated to purely battle form.

to be fair to him, we are getting a very skewed perspective since mc and his party kinda are playing on easy mode, where if they would die they just kinda go to japan. So makes sense to be a tryhard when literal lives are on the line.
