That was actually a very mature and healthy decision of her, she wen through the process:
1. realized she developed a fear of being left alone.
2. realized she also has a fear of being surrounded by unknown people
3. realized the healthiest thing for her future would be to face her fears head on
4. trusted her friend to be there for her and not abandon her
5. took the first step together with her friend by walking outside and taking in the first sight of the "new" world
6. realized that any more than this would be pushing things too far, only ending in more steps back than forward.
7. decided not to push things past her limit and chose to stay at home.
For people suffering the two things she suffers from the most, just stepping outside their door onto the front porch is a huge step in the right direction, and very good progress towards slowly working their way towards building their confidence and lessening their fear. The next time she ventures outside might take her to the edge of the field closest to the door, then down the road farther than to the edge of the field, slowly and surely, she'll eventually make it to the point where she'll be comfortable venturing to the local shop and start working on her fear of others.
