This is where the authors "show, don't tell" habit kind of breaks down. From what I understood we're seeing from the perspective of a couple on a date. They are texting back and forth while over in the corner FMC is getting a bombshell of some kind dropped on her, probably finding out her ex has started his coworker from a couple chapters back. Something the guy on the date says makes the woman decide he's not the one and ghosts him at the end of the night.
Super confusing, especially when it wraps back around to a previous chapter with FMC collapsing on the floor after the meal.
