@kwendy No not really. Camaraderie is something very different from friendship. Whereas friendship usually is built upon the same interests, camaraderie builds upon deep trust for each other. You will won't see good friends fight that often in the open, but comrades? They will insult one another on a level that most people would call harassment, sometimes even physically hurt each other.
However! As an outsider, don't ever dare mock one of them. Even the two people out of the group, that despise one another will band together like family.

Also, I think they wanted to imply it's "tovarish" due to nature of their school inspiration rather then what you mean by camaraderie.
