Wow, so everything he did and everyone he met didn't even really truly matter.
In a way, but you can think of all that has him journeying to this big reward - being able to fix everything.
That said, it does feel like they needed to push harder on how terrible everything is or something, because his need to fix
everything feels like it came out of nowhere. The only time he seemed to
REALLY reflect and feel remorseful was when he had to kill the King (his friend's son) as he felt he raised the kid poorly. Had there been more moments like that, where MC really reflected on his failings, I feel like this ending would have hit harder.
One thing that seems to be neglected was the Henry Morris kid... what exactly was the spell that he cast and caused MC to be reborn? Was the kid always destined to be a magician, and was that why he was depressed, because he didn't have any avenues to practice it?
Anyway, this entire series is basically a repeating case of
'and then this happened', and sometimes that's just a lot of fun. I enjoyed this series.

Honestly, I was expecting a monkey paw situation when he went to the past. He defeated the big bad and was leading the people well, that's pretty good - but became greedy and wanted to fix everything, to the point he was waging war against the gods. So I thought that he'd fix everything, only for everything to end up so SO much worse, and that's how it'd end. Pleasantly surprised by the pleasant end though.
