More manipulate than bring out. I think of it like a really strong hypnotic suggestion/brainwash.

You know, it seems that being even gently led into critical thinking can shatter suggestion magic. Even the hero nearly talked herself out of it spontaneously, and it's been reinforced for years by a greater demon who's been possessing her and reinforcing it whenever possible. Also that greater demon is operating on even stronger emotions and only warping actions she'd already do. (Protecting him and such.)

I wonder if suggestion doesn't always come to mind since using it requires either isolating the person or very careful and deliberate planning.
