While I don't even see the wisdom in being able to sign up for the military, get married, or being allowed to vote two years before being able to (legally) drink, maintaining the forbidden fruit temptation for so long is not necessarily wise. But then again, today's world is far more complex than in the past, so maybe it's easier now and not really even a thing. There are also people today that scoff at alcohol, but then happily smoke cannabis, as if regularly consuming one neurotoxin was so much better than the other.
