I'll go against everyone here with recommendations organised by decades, though if I had to stick to one that would be Ranma 1/2 as a good starter anime (since you have a lot of genres together). Here's my mess of genres:
70s: Mazinger Z.
80s: Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu (Legend of the Galactic Heroes).
90s: Ranma 1/2.
2000s: Yosuga no Sora.
2010s: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
2020s: Paripi Koumei!

I started with MHA (My Hero Academia [14+]), went on to Akira [18+], then started Yugioh [14+] and HXH [15+] afore I dedicated myself to One Piece [14+] for like 3-4 Years until I started Jojo [18+] and went on to discover Fist of the North Star, Fist of the Blue Sky, and Fist of the Blue Sky Regenesis [18+] and lastly the Legendary THE GRAPPLER BAKI [18+]
I've tried Yu Yu Hakusho, Seven Deadly Sins, Doctor Stone, and Tokyo Revenger, but they didn't grip me.
I started with MHA, since Marvel and Dc had grown stale in my young mind and too different! MHA though, drug me from my Anime-Anti ways and here I am, one of the Odder Balls of my family Heh! I'm not caught up with MHA though, I only got in a hundred chapters... I wonder what's happening?
