Because in between those two panels, gramps sent his minions after Futaba, who MC assumed was in danger.

There's a chance killing the old fuck would have rescinded the attack order, but given how the AVO has been presented as very cult-like the last few chapters, that's not likely (reinforced by the fact that, after getting hit with lightning, they didn't suggest retreating or anything, just that they weren't strong enough to beat her).

I think because he is regarded as "Takeru of this era", he will have the same mindset as him. However, they didn't account that him being in the "Isekai" world molded him into seeing that what they're doing is considered villainous in the other world as well.
