I think I read something about that from the translator's notes. It wasn't a mistranslation but a mistake from the author, who took some sort of discredited source for referencing the manga.

Yes. One of the primary sources mistranslated Great (大) Wife as Sixth (六) Wife. The source itself isn't discredited in whole. Historians just think there are too many mistranslations because the writer kinda sucks at reading HIS original sources. However, for this manga this becomes a great plot point.
