Huh... Looks like it was loosely based of the Itaewon Murder Case https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Itaewon_murder_case
Differences being that it was a stabbing in Burger King, that there wasn't initially enough evidence to indict either of them, and that the American murderer was finally find out in 2012, when a DNA test proved it was him.
