The way I understand it you're only a "sperm doner" when it's done through a legally-recognized clinic. Otherwise you're the legally-obligated "father" and the state will force you to pay child support if requested or if the mother and child go on any form of public assistance. This also applies to "anonymous" doners and a turkey baster if they can be tracked down with DNA.
