AI Upscaling - Thoughts?

Just wondering what the community's thoughts were on using ai to upscale manga. Are there any groups interested in it, or are there any older mangas that could potentially benefit from it? Is this even a service that anyone would be interested in?

If you're working with particularly poor raws (under 1200px high) then it can be worthwhile to upscale them just to make them more workable, but the AI isn't really revolutionary enough for it to be worth it for older stuff. You lose a whole lot of detail, and there are cases where the AI does something that's completely wrong and destroys the art, as cowarddude said, waifu2x is some nice software for it and the denoising function that it offers is something that most people will do when preparing raws for scanlation.

I tried it on Nagatoro 2 times then stopped doing it, the art kinda got messed up with the upscalimg on waifu2x, I did do it on another manga that was full color and it did look better upscaled lol

It can be useful, I upscale my TLs to make sure type setting looks ok

I used https://create.pixelcut.ai/upscaler. But it was for hentai. Worked well

that's quite interesting use face replace

I used https://create.pixelcut.ai/upscaler face replace. But it was for hentai. Worked well

hm i tried it but nowdays im using another one which is quite cool

It works wonders on some of the manga on comic walker. But if you have downloaded raws from bookwalker, amazon, or kobo with decent quality, I think it's better to not use it as it can have unwanted effects.
