One of the key reasons why I fell in love with this series, is that there item any know, and have to put in leg work to find out. So rare to see that. Protags typically act like they are the smartest people around, but they are only as good as their writer.
This also is part of why I still think the original Scooby-Doo cartoon is the best kids show. It taught the viewer to doubt. It wasn't a monster or ghost, but some tricks by people; they just had to figure out out.
