Okay so I speed read the WN you linked in an earlier chapter. I can see why they are making major changes to the characters in the manga but it doesn't make the story any better. Frankly, the WN isn't very good and not deserving of an adaptation.
Agreed the original short story is way better with a real villain using her PR skills to crush the prince heroine and the entourage

It's always a little strange when the heroine, a character who is already written to be isekai'd into the world and has a predefined personality, is seemingly a different character. If their personality is different, why are they in a world that per-ordained what kind of person and character they are? Are they also possessed by another reincarnated soul, which seems to allow one to break from their fated action? If that isn't the case, then the pre-established story that the villainess is trying to defy doesn't matter in the slightest, because fate has seemingly already changed before they reincarnated anyway (since the heroine should be a legitimately good person, but isn't). :thonk:
Thing is an otome game player character might not actually have a set personality? Like the game could potentially be set up so that she comes off as a completely different person depending on the route you take. Usually the set up for a villainess MC is that they meet various terrible ends depending on the route.

To me what's weird is when the heroine manages to immediately ensnare all of the capture targets like this. Idk I haven't really played otome games but to me it seems like the point is that getting even one of these dudes should take a decent amount of time and be sorta hard? Meanwhile if you put these dudes in a game it'd take like 20 minutes to reach a reverse harem ending. Not a satisfying game.

So, isn't healing everyone literally the sole reason she was summoned? Why is everyone acting like she's saying something unique and novel? The kingdom is facing an epidemic, and they summoned a saintess to fight it.
It's also like, wasn't her main deal previously that she was pretending not to get magic so she wouldn't have to heal people suffering from the epidemic?

Why would the next phase of that be offering to heal everyone indefinitely? That's way more work for approximately the same payoff.

Speed read the first few chapters, feel like they took a story that had 1-2 major issues with setup and turned it into a story with a ton of major and minor issues by replacing a bunch of parts with generic slop.

Like the OG's story's main issue was basically that the heroine was a regular girl and MC gave her like half a warning before doing something terrible to her. Extremely consistent with MC's deal in the prologue but also makes it way more obvious that her deal is channeling her rage at being mistreated by her sexist family and various sexist dudes into bullying teenagers.

Feel like changing her specialty/exploits to directly target the people who piss her off and focusing more on how the shit dudes/the country are using the heroine would have helped a lot.

Hmm, looks like they completely changed Aina's personality compared to the WN.
She wasn't even that much in the focus there, but from what i remember she was portrayed more like a nice and timid girl who is confused with this whole situation, not this generic "i'm the heroine, everyone should love me" type of villain we see all the time in this genre.
Turned into white bread to make her more "digestible"...
Most manga in the genre require the heroine to be "hateable" so the read is more sympathetic to the villainess when they do something bad. The easiest way to do so is shave off the heroines personality...

I read your spoilers... What she does to the friggin' innocent teenage heroine (Ruining her reputation and fucking getting a super aphrodisiac on her, REALLY??) + the ending you described makes me glad I read your spoilers... Also, HOW EXACTLY DOES IT MAKE SENSE THAT THE SAINTESS IS SEEN AS WORTHLESS? She wasn't useful for the current epidemic, that's it! Her powers are stll important, useful and godly ffs!

It seems obvious now why they made such big changes. However their solution was to turn it into generic slop, which in fairness gives it more chances of being successful compared to the original plot. I agree with Seether00 that this story just shouldn't have been adapted in the first place.

Honestly, the easiest solution would've been to just not have the heroine as a target. Fuckin' just have the MC use villainess tactics against assholes, that's it.

Hell, you could even have innocents in the crossfire (including the heroine), but not make the damage too bad (or at least, don't make it irreversible) and have the MC actually do a doubletake on it (instead of doing that kind of thing without a second thought like in her previous life) and slowly have a change of heart. She could then change her tactics a bit and also try to make it up to the innocents she already hurt (and maybe even tell them the truth).

Feels like this adaptation is simply filler content for a magazine...

It doesn't, the towns people are just made brain dead. They took one thing the FMC did as the absolute rule, and didn't even think "what if something worse happens in the future". So they gave on the Saint just like that... Let's say it like this, It was literally "Hand washing vs Divine Healing" :kek:

My guess is, it was probably meant to be seen like the FMC is the smartest because she was the only one that saw the Saints worth and took pity on her in the end. But for us who use our brain while reading, we don't buy that shit!

I definitely agree with the rest of your post... Some pretty good ideas!

Stretching the premise to make public healthcare seem evil, huh.
It seems like her understanding of it is just shallow. Even if you are not charged for medical treatment it doesn't means it's free, that money still has to come from somewhere.

This is the only one i've read where the stories MC is isekaied out right. Usealy its the MC is of that world but someone (usealy a total bitch/slut) is isekaied into that persons mind. Thus them having a differant personality that the stories original MC. Honestly I do prefere them to just be lawful stupid rather than someone controlling them.

I have doubts the original game involved romance amid the mass deaths of a "horrible but still recoverable situation" unless it was a much darker game than seemingly implied. Chapter 2 also says that when a Saint is summoned they "resolve" situations like epidemics, famines, and monsters, which sounds like they're doing more than just blunting the harm of such events.
In chapter one the Villionus MC referes to the book this world is as being "trashy", but othwerwise did sound like it was a roamcne novel.

@ARealCoolGuy

Most Otome protages don't have a personality per say, but a predefined set of multiple choice options for conversions and events with capture targets. So the player character personality is set by the choices the player makes.

That being said, there is a stark difference between a game where your actions are set on a predefined path that must be navigated, as opposed to a more natural setting where you can sequence break the scenario progression of the story using in game knowledge.

Even though the above is also true, the more likely reason is that the author's just lack the ability to write a characters without the puppetstrings. So you get very one dimensional characters that follow very predictable set of actions

Feel like that's a double edged sword because instead choosing the right dialogue choice for a relatively small number of interactions is a lot easier than crafting and maintaining a persona based on those dialogue options. Even if you're lucky and all your interactions with a target match the game exactly you still have to deliver the lines correctly.

Not even getting into how a lot of otome game targets require you to do shit like study or work out a bunch.

Hence the entirety of the last statement that you cut off?

?

I was riffing on the second thing you said because the third felt more comprehensive, if that makes sense?

Like it applies to both the difference between playing an otome game and acting it out in real life AND the author not deviating from an extremely basic formula re: the evil heroine's goal (gather a reverse harem) and actions (she succeeds but in sort of a cheap way.) Both sort of meaty topics so I picked the one I wanted to talk about more.

I didn't think you were wrong or anything.

It's all fiction. Poorly written to be true, but there are just as many poorly written otome games out there as well. So it's less about the content in either genre, and that this author lacks the talent to pull off anything better.

Sure. To me it just feels a bit funny because out of all the formats the reverse harem wanting heroine could come from (novel, manga, anime, visual novel, etc.) otome game is the only one that's supposed to have multiple outcomes.
