The argument wants to be deeper than it is. People do what they can to help others generally. Some people are born with monetary advantages and either through direct methods or inaction harm others who lack those advantages.

Feels like an emo fourth grader wrote this chapter.

I mean, that's just capitalism, the system perpetuates inequality. However the backstory feels weak not because the societal problems being illustrated here aren't real, but because the character himself feels shallow although I can somewhat relate. I don't think it's naive at all to strive for justice, but it's unrealistic to expect to change the entire system, so we just do what we can
