I think this guy's technique depends on his opponent dodging his main attack. Presumably he has a follow-up attack that is generally a guaranteed kill if they dodge. But Almark just blocked it directly, not giving him the opportunity he needed.

I just got reminded how big Almark's sword is so he actually not in disadvantage in reach against adult swordsmen. Still, considering how easy he mowed down those mercs, how much training he got from his father?

He only got basic training right? His father was hesitant to teach him the sword because he doesn't want him to be a mercenary. His skill mostly because of his experience in the battlefield
