On principle (and with no regards to this particular series), I'm kind of fine with that part. The whole "we should all strive to be powerful, detached murdering sociopaths" message implicit in a lot of these, is one of my least-favorite parts of the broader genre.
(To be clear: I'm not sure how any of this all ties into any actual religiously-observed Taoism, which I am not terribly familiar with, but if all this violent nonsense were supposed to be the takeaways of any Taoist schools of thought I'd be frankly a bit shocked—much better, I should think, to treat this all as flexible fantasy, just like a good Angels-and-Demons action flick from a western country)
