I don't think we ever saw her "just messing with the MC". To me it looked more like she kind of decided to try for real after he protected her in the first chapter.

How good is an underdog mc that tries to improve himself and be the active in putting the effort on making the girl fall in love with him instead of needing her validation and protection every minute like a mom. Really the MC alone makes this read worth it.

It was never a prank. Its a "punishment" the punishment being that she has to date him to get used to men.

Youshin was great in this chapter! He was rightfully possessive, and he didn't want to spend any less time with Nanami than he could have. He really made Nanami feel fuzzy inside. I'm sure their date will be great.

Nanami's feelings were articulated while she was in the shower. It's pretty cliché, but it does let her relax and let her true self out. She even squealed unintentionally, which is pretty funny. I'm sad she wasn't wearing her sidetail anymore, though that must have been hard to draw, so I can understand why she's back to having long hair.

Shibetsu seems to be the typical dumb jock. But he was mature enough to not be a sore loser, at least. Will he find love too? Who knows. At the very least, he can be a friendly wingman to Nanami and Youshin.

Yeah, I was ALSO thinking that this guy is psychic or something. As soon as she thinks something he chimes in with the right words. That part is super sus. I think he's reading the raws and/or pre-published manga and then improvising. I don't mind the vanilla but that is just hard to believe that he has all the answers for her fears.

It has to be in the realm of believable with a shade of unrealistic.
If you wanted to make it realistic. Then I suggest you stop reading and go outside

At the same time I get it. You hate it and sick of the trope. While me I hate a certain trope and I accept it because I resigned me of accepting like reality
