I wouldn't call it a five minute transformation, this has been building for a while now. That said, I'm not super stoked about it. It was just too predictable, it has felt obvious since forever that these two would end up together and I think it would have been more interesting if she actually was happy with the other guy, just to subvert expectations a bit, and be a little less predictable (like how real life is).

Thats why she said to "Give her a pass", because she wanted it as a favor. Also she didn't pretend he didn't exist. She avoided him to avoid that awkward situation. Much like a real person would avoid their crush during the point that the feelings are heightened. This didn't come out if nowhere, and if you feel that way you may need to work on reading comprehension.

The "maybe(s)" were dripping with sarcasm. Maybe that poster described you right. Anyway, the situation with Ayame has been a long time coming. She didn't just start being into Kyo and the series didn't just start showing that she was leaning his direction. She also has not done much of anything to be so aggressive against her. Some of the continued reactions to her exposes levels of sensitivity I can't empathize with. Both of them went on their own journeys to prepare themselves for each other. Both of them landed on the same decision to confess at nearly the same time.
