The uphill struggle of every music manga is making the music-playing segments actually engaging. There needs to be some degree of emotional weight associated with music; it has to feel, well, musical. I think this chapter did that rather well, somehow even without any significant conflict. We still got to see different characters develop and do their thing throughout the jam session. Just a few small anxieties were enough to provide tension. And the payoff is great.
That aside, is it just me, or does Riku suddenly look 10 years older when she sings lol
