The awkward earnestness is really well-written in this series.
It's clear that at least a couple of them struggle with speaking their minds, in that they worry over how their words will be received & perceived (speaking of Kokoro and Shin in particular, here). But the magic comes from the fact that all of them want to be there, and to try and push to make all of this work...and in the dialogue--even the uncomfortable aspects--both their relationships and the momentum pushes forward toward their goals.
A good reminder that it's important to try, even if it's uncomfortable or scary, because there's every chance your anxieties and fears will not manifest, and things will work out for the best, for all involved.

Having the band record one by one instead of jamming together is an interesting choice by the mangaka. It highlights how awkward the members are when left to their own devices, particularly Riku and Kai.
