Yeah, so Hiroko's story really mirrors Ayaka's. The difference is Hiroko watched her senpai suffer because of the budding relationship, and office gossip and that suffering ultimately cost her, her job. It's really unfortunate that they had to go through that and the situation really further clarifies Hiroko's fears. She's literally seen what can happen with these kinds of romances. Her boss wasn't bad, she was just beaten by the comments and pressure and was pushed out as a result. A whole career altered. Now she's trying hard to save her own job but also to prevent Ayaka from the same sad end that she went through with her senpai.

Well, this is biggest super dumb ever.
It was nothing but office drama, gossip and petty envy. Her having the gays was not even a factor, anyone could have been roped into it through any other random bullshit.
They literally said "we know you're nothing like that" which is just microdosing homophobia. It did play a big part in it.

Especially since this was just the start and just rumors. What would be there reaction once they found out the two were indeed gay and together? Boss got out to preempt the inevitable and cut it off before it got nastier for Hiroko.

thanks for the translation!

no wonder hiroko built up as strong as a fortification as she did watching her boss resign to protect her and her career and then losing contact

makes sense why she doesnt accept ayakas confession despite the love being mutual doesnt want ayaka to have the same fate

this clears up, a LOT! wow what a great chapter haha. it’s nice to have an explanation to put behind hiroko’s behavior.

it definitely is a deja vu thing for hiroko and i think it shows us her character even better. she would never want to put ayaka or herself in the same situation, and it also clarifies her nervousness about her company finding out.

lovely story, thank you for the translation

The business world is NASTY. Nothing new.

I think this chapter showed the nuances of how hard it is for women in the job market even if they are not LGBT. They will be judged harshly regardless. In Hiroko’s story, homophobia wasn’t even a big part of the issue, it was misogyny.

That makes me kinda grateful that nowadays there is a lot more support for women who want to speak up against the prejudice they face at work, and we debate ways to solve this along with exposing the causes, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less of an issue than it used to be. It still affects our careers even if we are not in the wrong by any means.

I just graduated in Economics, a career notoriously (white, straight and) male predominant, and even if in the classroom it is almost a consensus that the gender wage gap is a serious issue, it really hits home that you are a minority when you notice there is only one female professor among the “directors”, and within the alumni the department boast about only two women achieved C-level positions in business. The issue is talked about, yes, but it’s really hard to feel safe because the unspoken barriers to progress in your career are still there when you are female.

And rumours are not the only issue, although imo they are without a doubt the most painful one. In male dominated environments it’s sometimes hard to feel like you are being taken seriously and you start to think you gotta play the part of the fierce career woman (who people will still complain about behind her back) to feel like your effort to get to the starting point of your career is worth it.

Anyways, Chinatsu-senpai you will not be forgotten :qq::qq::qq::qq:

This content breaks rule 1, read it.
For me if i'm the owner, as long as it's benefit for company, I don't care if she seduce me to get promote (as long as she's beauty :slap:) or having "unique" couple to give their best at work. Gossip people is always destroy the company. Better be careful.

Yeah, Im fine with LGB. But not the rest (there is a lot of word that I forgot what it is, don't want to search either). That rest alphabet people is just shit. Some company go broke because of them. Better watch out.

Now think of all the issues the lgbt community goes through in the west;

And then remove most of the rights people worked so hard to get for the lgbt community in the workplace;

And then multiply the homophobia;

That's Japan's work culture.

Guess it's just me but I really didn't see it like that.
I saw the clusterfuck being more about the supposed illicit relationships in the office and how it is affecting theirs and other people's careers. Look how right afterwards they focus more on the "affair" part of things. Hell, the rumor even said Hiroko was trying to bang the Director too.
Even the "we know you're nothing like that" seems to be more directed towards the "time to start an affair on the side!" than anything else.
Shit was a total mess. Honestly I'm impressed at how such a dead-looking middle aged dude managed to start up such a spicy rumor mill.

You're willfully ignorant of the rest of the acronym but think you know enough about the people it represents to pass judgment?

So this also explains why she’s always on edge. People arguing that Ayaka’s case had nothing to do with that, but it’s clearly because Hiroko was very careful about this stuff.
Letting her mask slip and risking the chances of getting on anyone’s bad side would be enough to create a repeat situation.

Also, there were rumors already regarding Ayaka sleeping around/wanting to seduce a guy.
