I don't play this game, what's a bulin? And what's with the looks at the end of the first strip?
They are the star-up/limit break material for the shipgirls, so their purpose is what Enterprise is saying not to do with them.
Worth to mention, they do take up slots in your dock and have all the functions of regular shipgirls including a few voicelines, but useless in combat. So yeah, a bit macabre if you think about it.
