ngl, I feel this development is a bit stupid. the duchess being Madame Kerno lost child: a bit clicheed bit at least slowly set up with a bunch of hints.
but now the Duke and Duchess are also childhoodfriends out of nowhere (or was this hinted and I just completely forgot?), but despite that the Duke's memories are too faint to recognize her.
I have no problems with authors using tropes and clichees, but there are levels to this, don't just throw everything at the wall.
