Well, any good user database contains personal information such as adress and phone number, but librarians typically have to sign a secrecy and integrity agreement. Any miss-use of such information is at least a breach of employment contract, and possibly even illegal... which doesn't mean that it never happens, but that the "bad librarian" is in a correspondingly deeper pile of crap when they get caught.

She's not employed. She's more like a volunteer for her school's library. Database really only depends on the school. This school probably don't see the need for it , because responsibility is pretty much ingrained into their culture. With that said, if she did get caught, they probably will call her parents and do the usual things (suspension, no more volunteer privileges, etc.)

@Purplelibraryguy Well, I guess things are done differently in different places, where I work we have to sign a separate agreement. In any case, as you say, "we don't do that shit".

@Someguy I know, but at least where I work we don't let anybody handle personal information without letting them know what not to do, and that includes volunteers etc.
Also, I'm aware that my comment came off as nitpicking, which was intentional and meant to be funny ;-)

I have worked in a few school libraries, and they have all handled checkouts differently. In places with this kind of system, where the students themselves fill out the book card (i.e. a simple self-checkout system), the library usually has access to the school's student database anyway in order to track down overdue loans, although that access may not be extended to volunteers such as this girl. This is not meant as a criticism against the manga, by the way, I'm just providing a bit of background

I sure wouldn't mind seeing this become serialised, I want to know more about how this plays out. For example, how would the guy react when / if she uses the info to contact him? And would she do it under the pretext of some kind of "official" reason? What happens when the actual librarian / teacher finds out? So many questions!
