It's certainly true that in most of these stories, the ladies aren't typically working much outside of the game of hearts, unless they are still students and must study. So, it's pretty funny the empress (who also doesn't seem to work, she's just scheming) found Char actually helping her dad to deal with the family business to be so extraordinary that she had to arrange a meeting with Char, to comment on the miracle in person.
