UPDATE (18/06/2025)

I'm not sure if this thread is allowed, but if it's not taken down, I plan to keep updating it. I’ll be monitoring scan groups that are involved in scams, and I might need support from you all as well. If the MangaDex team decides to remove it, that would be unfortunate, but I’ll understand.

Whether you believe it or not, I’m telling you — they are a scamlation group. Many people have worked there without ever getting paid. They always come up with excuses and fake drama. Be careful!

Look at them — too many excuses.

They’re never going to pay you. It’s always the same — excuse after excuse. Just a bunch of fucking excuses.

Isn’t that our right — our payment — for the hard work we’ve done? It shouldn’t matter which scan group we joined; we gave it our all. But when it’s finally time to get paid, they come up with all kinds of damn excuses just to avoid paying the staff.

The screenshot above isn't me — it's from a staff member who worked there. I myself worked there about 3–4 months ago, and they owed me over $50. But they never paid and ended up removing me. My friend also didn’t get paid, even after waiting for 2 to 4 months. Some were owed $200, others $80. Feel free not to believe me — I honestly don’t care. Maybe this cycle will just keep repeating, and more staff members will go unpaid. If you add it all up, it might be over $2,000 — or possibly even more — that they haven’t paid.

and these are the victims. I intentionally didn’t reveal their profiles. But if you still choose not to believe it, that’s up to you — I don’t care.

I'm sorry to say this, but translating without a proper license is illegal and any money obtained this way is always the result of someone getting scammed or worse.
Not getting paid for it is honestly the least concerning part and might even be better for you since you can claim you are a victim too when things go awry with enough handwaving.
When the translator gets paid, that money comes from someone "buying" an illegal piece of work and even though it's not a "scam" per se it's still not how people should spend their salary. The "seller" is a criminal, fundamentally.
You should not "scanlate" for money; rather, because you want to allow people to enjoy otherwise unavailable works, entirely out of passion and goodwill.
If you want to make money through your knowledge of Japanese, Korean, Chinese or whatever other language, there are legal services on the web you can sign up for and be sure you're not only clear legally, but can make an appeal should your payments be late or missing.
If you still want to work with comics, I heard DLsite offers such a service.

Wasn't this thread taken down at one point yesterday? Did the higher-ups reinstate it or am I going crazy? :nyoron:
He's using hacks, those anons are quite tricky!
Back on topic, I could sympathise about getting scammed by a legal yet scummy company (insert here your favourite eroge company), but this? It's because people are willing to work with these default criminals that they exist, though this helps understanding the amount of chapters they had uploaded before getting banned from here.
