It's over, what a ride. Except for the lame predictable "tragic" "Hokuto Plot Twist" and boss fight, this series was great. Of course some woman had to die willingly for some nonsensical reason, and then two people who knew each other when they were younger have to throw down with the "villain" winning until some Deus Ex Machina makes the "Hero" suddenly power up and win.
It's not that I mind tropes, just when they're not done well and overused. I also dislike how people (especially women) die or mutilate themselves all the time in Hokuto for the sake of "the future" or "someone special" when there was no logical reason to do so, and staying alive / whole would've given them the power to make the future they wanted by acting.
It also means that some of the best (if not the best) characters get taken off the board because the author needs a quick cheap death to sell the next issue. In the short run, it increases sales, but in the long run, it kills the series. It's impossible to keep creating new, interesting characters to get invested in, and even the creators will eventually realize that some of the characters they killed off were the best characters the series was going to ever have, and that people only followed the series to see what would happen with those characters next.
