I hope there's some good reason why the MC couldn't detect the Gu parasite. They even highlighted how he felt something was off (with him smelling blood) and they even had that whole section highlighting how proficient the MC was at the end of chapter 19. Honestly, I wouldn't really be satisfied if the reason was just because of negligence - it just doesn't feel very in character.
