Ok, so the Governors are AI in charge of this City. They are not inherently evil, but due to a lack of Net Genes, security protocols are activated throughout the city, which results in the rogue Plastic Boys trying to kill people. This must mean that the security is meant to keep out intruders. But from where? Is there life outside of the City? Is it hostile? There is an evident fall of society in the intervening years between when humanity entered the City and now, so what happened? What caused people with Net Genes to become rare? What caused all these new races? At least we have a solid reason why we need someone with Net Genes, they need to stop the expansion of the City and to save humanity from extinction at the hands of the rogue security systems. But are the Governors telling the truth? Or is this a trick to get the protagonist to bring them the last individual with the authority to control them so they can kill them and be free of any potential shackles? Basically what I'm getting at is that I really like this series. I really enjoy when a series raises so many questions I want answered.
