i think what he meant was that that goal was the outcome of nagi's foreboding, his drive has been to defeat isagi but it's now gone, gone before his abilities truly surpassed isagi's. that goal cannot be reproduced as he probably won't feel that sense of foreboding again, so now, it's test of the depths of his ego.
