Sometimes I just don't get the minds of buyers. They purchase romcom drek on the dozen yet when actual stories come their way its avoided like a plague. This was a great romcom adaptation of the Terminator movies. It combinded the usual comedy and moe romance of romcom with the action scenes of Terminator. This made for a story that was interesting and funny simultaneously. Seeing Terminator references sprinkled in was a joy.
The characters were fine. Shinjou is a typical male lead of romcom. From what I see he was being fleshed out as a character before the ax and I assume this would have continued. Integra was the weakest. She definitely needed more development as she did little more than be a moe character, without her fighting skills doing much against more skilled opponents. The supporting characters were good, Sukato in particular, who while looking much different from the Terminator in the second movie developed in a similar way as him.
This ending was a godsend. I'm astonished it filled up all gaps in just 40 pages. The resolutions were about as best they get from an axed ending. The plot twist was great, seeing Shinjou and Integra realize they were living a lie before finding their peers as they were about to head back to the future. Given all I saw, a proper ending would have needed at least five chapters. That Watarai Keji condensed this into one shows his skill as an author and illustrator.
An enormous shame no English paperback exists, as its a great adaptation of Terminator and a good story in its own right.
7/10.
