On the "Trading Guild/Merchant Guild" thing:

It's the difference between the Stock Exchange and your local Chamber of Commerce.

Stock markets originally started in the 1200s with stock (cows, sheep, chickens, goats) and comestibles (apples, turnips, carrots), and people would show off the best versions of what they had, by bringing their Stock into town at the Market. and people would give money for a calf, or a certain amount of apples, or an amount of milk; the plan is to receive those things next year (i.e.: the Future), and the farmer/rancher would use the money and put all of it in their vest, and use it to make sure the best cow/sheep/goat was born and raised, and that the best crops would grow.

So, they would invest in Stock futures at the stock market... which might be across several towns and markets across the County, Duchy, or even Kingdom.

To bring stuff into town, though, and sell it there directly?
That required permission from the local lord, or the local business group/guild; business conducted in town at a store is totally different from the Stock Market, and so has different rules and standards.
Some stuff may not be allowed to be sold to outsiders, or had a tariff if you sell it out of town, or a cost just to come into/out of town.

So; one group for sales in town, and one for out of town.
