I feel like the most evil part of this set up is how he basically locked her up for no good reason, nothing(shown so far) in the premise led me to believe she deserved a slow death via starvation and confinement, nor her daughter dying in the og storyline.
Send her to a nunnery if you must, its not as though she would be able to leave, but at least it wouldn't be as cruel as punishing a woman for fighting for her marriage when she was the person who was wronged.
