Mass production, it's more economical (and even environmentally friendly in a few cases) to use a standard sized box even if the item is small, although recently there are now also bubble wrap envelopes that are filling in for shipping small items.

maybe the delivery service are using the delivery fee by weight category thing, perhaps the smallest one is only like >500gr so its an obligatory to use that box as in its a box for a max 500 gr total items
