It's just the dumbest setup of drama/tension and forever makes them detestable, and more often than not it's just swept under the rug as "just a joke bro" when they lose to the protags, and no one questions how problematic that sort of thing is.

especially because it's such a nothing thing for the guy to do
like in this case specifically "if I win, you marry me. if you win, I'll do anything you want"
just respond with "ah, that's okay. I don't want you to do anything anyways." since there's really no reason to make the bet
