well its more like he is participating in the system which is the issue for her. buying a human being even to sell them is practically putting value on a human life. i dont necessarily agree that hes in the wrong but i can see where she is coming from. It's apparently ok to forcefully enslave someone, but not to forcefully free them. That makes no sense.
I like your idea better. It shows mc exploiting the system instead of abiding by it.I thought the story here would be that the slavers wouldn't be able to go 15 minutes without whipping, meaning the deal is off, and so are their heads. Is he seriously going along with this tournament farce just to make a point... Actually, that sure sounds like him.
It's apparently ok to forcefully enslave someone, but not to forcefully free them. That makes no sense.
The only thing that doesn't make sense in the whole chapter is page 16. The trader puts a coat or cloak around the slave...with no visible explanation as to where it even came from. No one in the area was wearing anything like it. It's just...suddenly there. At first when Kai gave money to buy the slave, it felt so out of character. But after learning his reason it made sense.
But damn the kingdom is rotten from Top down.
