The original term is "留学" (ryuugaku) which is indeed the term commonly used to mean studying abroad, and in this case, it also apparently means short-term study at a school different from the one you're enrolled in. I am aware it sounds odd when translated directly to English, but I don't really know of an English equivalent for temporarily studying at another regional school (it's not really a thing that comes up often in the manga I tend to read) that also works with Ten's commentary.Is studying abroad really the right term here? The other school seems to be in the same city.
