Well, I am clearly a degenerate based on my first thought for that "curious shaped" vibrating tip of the staff... >.>

But at least I'm honest about it! :devilish:

In fairness to the idiot prince those look like they're meant to counter archers and cavalry, not the ice bombs that only Allen and the Ramslett's know of.

Horses tend to not want to charge at pointy sticks or things they can't jump over, and the thing acts as a mantlet against arrows.

I'm also pretty sure the concept of a shotgun or spread attack doesn't exist, especially since magic is at a fairly low level without several extremely rare across or the correct divine blessing
Doesn't even make since to counter archery since it is open ended in the front, leaving the soldiers to get sniped. As for anti-cavalry purposes, a single pointy stick doesn't counter cavalry, let alone heavy cavalry. It is a lot of pointy sticks in a formation that counters cavalry, of which the "siege engines" don't do. What these "siege engines" look like is pretty expensive coffins for the infantry.

Real. When I was like just entering high school, my dad brought the vibrator. He said for stiff muscles. The head got detachable part in the shape of classic round sphere, a blunted acupuncture point, some sort of brush, and foam (I don't get this one).

I used it on myself, and it hurts if you put it on the head, though felt kinda funny.
At one point, though, the thing slipped off my hand and dropped right down there.

Arrows arc while in flight, especially at long distances. If the archers are able to shoot with a relatively flat trajectory the archers are about to enter melee and should draw sidearms.

It's not a single pointy stick it's four to a mantlet, and several mantlets together at least two rows deep.

You're also assuming the cavalry has long enough lances instead of the spears they're armed with to couch the men inside the thing, without getting stuck and bogged down or running into it.

The spear points just aren't dense enough to my eyes. It'll stop cavalry only in the sense that after the first line is dead the cavalry doesn't really want to step over the leftover shell.
Why are you assuming that the horses can just stop after a full charge before they run into the structure?

Horses tend to not like charging into things they can't jump over. The rider will also need a long enough spear to stab the infantry without getting caught or stuck on the spearpoints while turning away after.

Charging from the side or rear doesn't make sense, there's no guarantee the cavalry spears can punch into the wood mantlet, or knock them over without injury.

That siege engine design is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Author, you are to never cook again.

That's....exactly what I'm saying. They don't want to charge because they can only kill 1 layer of troops and get stuck.

And again, the spearpoints are pretty iffy because of the sheer horizontal space between them. It's definitely not a pike wall.

I think it's meant to prove how inept the Crown Prince & the charm witch is. This is supposed to his design.
  1. Which means he doesn't even understand why a wall of spears weilded by infantry works. And how this changes makes it ineffective.
  2. He doesn't understand the problem with moving that thing on dirt that will change shape and condition due to movement of the infantry and horses.
  3. He doesn't understand the magic bombs that the MC has been using effectively against his troops and bases.
  4. He doesn't understand how the open box to the front will leave his troops open to fire/rocks both magic and not(toss one molotov cocktail or equivalent), arrows, spears and other thrown object.
  5. He doesn't understand how the design will impede his own troops if the unit stops moving.
  6. This type of design was actually used invading fortress or walls. But it was designed to be more a porcipine and basically just a vehicle to protect units from defense weaponary from a fortress to invaders. Why he or the witch thought it would work in other scenarios is really dumb. I don't think those type of vehicles were even small. To counter wet dirt or clay, the wheels would be giant enough you could stick a pike into a hole, push the pike to turn the wheel, pull out pike and repeat. Or put down your own custom road.

Have you you ever practices archery? I have, and bows, especially long bows and composite bows can fire arrows with a relatively flat trajectory quite a bit distance away before the troops ever entire melee distance. Not as much as arced fire, mind. Secondly, even if I were to grant your premise, those siege weapons would still be vulnerable to skirmishers and light infantry, especially javelin throwers. There is a reason amlost every siege weapon was shielded from arrows from the front and top, and not from behind and top.
You're also assuming the cavalry has long enough lances instead of the spears they're armed with to couch the men inside the thing, without getting stuck and bogged down or running into it.
ever hear of horse archers and light cavalry? They don't need to charge into the siege weapons in order to destroy the siege weapons.

That was what I assumed, that the author was showing the ineptness of the Crown Prince by having him personally design siege weapons that looked like something someone who was never on the battlefield would design.

Extra chapter's numbering should be starting from .5, so this chapter should be 50.5, instead of 50.3.
debatable, like. x.5 is more like extra story between 2 chapters or just filler. x.3 when you already got x.1/x.2 is an extra from the x chapter, not exactely a side thing but just additions like pics, art, comentary, etc. But yes, also when you split the chapter 3 times.
