Not exactly. They both (Saito and Akane) strongly denied being in a real relationship and state they hate the fact they were forced on it.
Sure, there are other issues
1) It's really complicated to live a secret relationship like that
2) If they both are forcing do deal with their shit family and everything is ruined because of this kind of side relationship, them well, it would all be for nothing.
Of course, we know Saito and Akane like each other, but you can't blame the people around they just accepting that they are saying the truth when they say they don't like each other.

The reason that i feel like Himari is so much better then Akane is 3 fold,

1 Himari is straight up with her feelings for MC

2 She has way better chemistry

3 She actively takes interest and asserts herself to get those feelings across with actions

Her being Akanes friend shouldn't matter because A she had told Akane as such ages beforehand, shes not going behind her back about any of this and B Akane denied liking MC so this is merely reaping what she sowed.

If it's between Akane and Himari I'd probably choose Himari. If she has the resolve to be comfortable being the sidepiece, then I can lowkey respect it. She knows what she wants isn't above going a little low to get it. If nothing else I can say I like that aspect about her. It's slightly more interesting than whatever MC and Akane have going for them.

The problem with Hikari is that she's willing to lower herself. Say what you want about convenience, but that doesn't make for a long term relationship. She's actually seeking both solace from her family (as you can derive from the novels) and a comfortable lifestyle, which Saito could obviously provide. That's not love. That's not even lust with potential. It's a straightforward business arrangement.

If that's what you'd like - ok. But doesn't make sense here.
