even if the enemy is a class 1, isnt all the current mech avaliable only for class 3 and below? Not sure how much of a boost that would give since they are limited by the mech’s output

Well you know the standard fare for these stories with mechs. It doesn't necessarily matter how low the mech classes are, they usually are focused on the pilots themselves, like in the Gundam universes. Their main concepts will be the mech can evolve with the pilot. As far as we know, there might just be a hidden lore that the only reason that they only get a certain mech of a certain level is because that said level is the level its former pilot (from the ancient times) was able to reach before they perished. The people of their era are pretty much just finding pilots with a certain power that can match the mech they find, which is understandable but leaves almost no room for long term 'improvement'.
