I don't geit it. When you play many JRPG or soulsclone games they have a lot of creativities when designing monsters. This one is basically just isekai goblin with horn and katanas.
If you have ever seen a painting of a yokai, it might be more appropriate to say that it comes from an ancient painting of a yokai from Japan.

I mean, isn’t she meant to be an onmyoji? Those are yokai she’s fighting, so it’s not like they’re just gonna make up their own. They’ll use the ones that already exist, and starting with the more easily recognisable ones makes sense. I do hope they get to the more unique ones as the arc goes on though, yeah.

The best thing the author could've done, is keep our world as "our world". No supernatural, and no real way for the MC to use magic linearily, that is: magic -> attack spells.

I hoped the molestation-arc was an outlier. Meh.

So, you are saying this should have been just a psychological story exploring how the rest of the class suddenly disappearing, without a trace, would affect the lone "survivor"? No supernatural stuff aside from the others being gone in a flash of light. He would have gone through a bunch of interviews by the police and psychologists, and probably got harassed by journalists, but that's pretty much it. Maybe, since it's Japan, he would have later been bullied. Otherwise he would have been just like any other school kid, continuing his daily life, maybe being affected by survivor guilt if the author so wanted, but likely not since he was a fresh transfer student.

I can't say I'd have read such a manga.

To clarify your point, you should just come out and say it. The goblins and etc. from the JRPGs are copy-pastes from a long tradition of Japanese yokai fantasy art.

I meant for the MC to have his magic, skills, whatever. But there would be no goblins and shit in our world.
I wanted a story about a fish-out-of-water, a guy with magic in a world that does not explicitly needs it, so he'd find ways to apply it nonchalantly, like he did thus far (minus the rapist).

No clue where you got any of that.
